The
proposed
site is subject to flooding from both the Brisbane River and Jindalee Creek and was almost entirely flooded in the recent January 2011 floods. It serves as an important flood storage plain for the area.

Any filling in of areas that were flooded in January 2011 must not be allowed as this will limit future flood storage capacity and will increase flooding levels in the future. There will be cumulative effects on flooding levels if Brisbane City Council continues to allow developments, such as this, that “fill in” the few remaining flood storage plains.  Any development on this site should only be considered if it has no impact on the flood storage capacity of the local suburban area and no impact on flooding levels from flood events of the Brisbane River and/or Jindalee Creek.

There could also be problems associated with evacuating the elderly in the event of a flood.
Please consider supporting us in expressing concerns about the possible flood effects that the development of the former turf farm may have on Jindalee, Sinnamon Park, Windermere and Seventeen Miles Rock. The former turf farm is situated in Sinnamon Park on Oldfield Road, next to the Centenary Highway and lies on Jindalee Creek.

Forward this information onto your networks.

SPRPA

The Sinnamon Park Residents Progress Association (SPRPA) exists to represent the residents of Sinnamon Park, Brisbane, to ensure that the suburb receives its fair share of services provided by all levels of government.

It occasionally serves as a community body acting for or against development applications.

The executive committee of the SPRPA is elected yearly, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), usually held around August of each year.
