Earth Dumping near Jindalee Creek
Earth has been dumped illegally near the Jindalee creek, risking contamination and/or silting of the waterway.
Initial inspections by Brisbane City Council officers suggested this is illegal and the matter had been passed on to the appropriate enforcement officers to investigate further.
As a result, the property owner has been issued a compliance notice under NALL (Natural Assets Local Law). The following actions are required to be undertaken:
- Remove all stockpiled soil from the waterway area.
- Ensure the ground affected by stockpiled soil is returned to its natural level.
- Seed any exposed earth with grass seed to re-establish vegetative cover as soon as possible.
- Erect sediment fencing in all areas downslope from the exposed soil to prevent sediment runoff into the creek.
This happened at a very bad time with heavy rain around at the time and the following picture illustrates the contamination of Jindalee Creek with soil as a result:
